Virtualization has become a key technology for simplifying service management and reducing energy costs in data centers. One of the challenges faced by data centers is to decide when, how, and which virtual machines (VMs) have to be consolidated into a single physical server. Besides this, the other major challenge for the data centers in setting up a virtual infrastructure is actually making the physical to virtual conversions in a timely and effective manner. The major factors that are seen as hurdles in making these conversion successful are lack of expertise, resources, creating realistic windows for conversion and (PM)server downtime. The objective of this project is to provide a framework (or tool) which automates the p2v conversion process and make it resource-efficient and costeffective, taking care of the available hardware, scheduling downtime and load during peakhours. Also need to perform performance management thru server consolidation IMP : All this needs to be done using XEN open-source software (and any other supporting software, which also needs to be open source.) I expect the tutor to first provide me with the set of hardware and software requirements. Currently i have 3 machines one running Ubuntu10.04 Desktop edition and two running Ubuntu12.04 Desktop edition. Then the tutor need to guide me through the cluster set up(step-by-step). And, the tutor need to perform the above mentioned activities on the set up.
