The difficulties faced by organization to develop information system strategy are discussed. The typical issues that can be faced by the project initiated to address problems of Uber Company are also taken in to consideration. The remedies are suggested to overcome the problems being identified.
Identification of issues and discussion of Uber Company
Uber Company operates from San Francisco, Clifornia United States. Company is not in profit as the results of 2016 suggest where it has incurred a loss of 1.2 billion at least in the first half of the year 2016. Company uses a phone based GPS system to control the drivers and tracking of the cars. Uber does not use standalone GPS system that is a major issue as the drivers say that they are provided with older models of phones to operate. The structure of the Uber Company is hierarchical in order. This means that the command is from top to down approach that instructs employees about the work and duties. There are not sufficient participation and recommendations from the employees to improve the information system of organization and generally top management takes the decision. Issues of privacy of customers and sexual assaults have been found
Operation and functionality
The operations and functionality refers to current running operations and activities that an organization undertakes. The concerned organization studied reveals that there are many efficient activities to manage the IT system are running such as better TPS system, DSS system and other systems.
But the current processes also reveal certain gaps and inefficiency that needs to be addressed properly Uber Company intends to promote a safer system for the customers for data privacy and physical safety of customers. Some of unethical practices are reported by company. The company CEO was found in public deception case and it has lied to circumvent laws. The idea of disruption also causes harm for information security. Another report suggests that Uber company is unable to treat the data of customers sincerely and a lack of care is revealed in its attitude. Privacy issues have been raised against the company many times. The data collection method of company is alleged by another company as unethical. Even the reiteration of the company officials that they are responsible for customers data protection, the sincerity is not practiced by them (Frizell, 2015). Uber employees and other people are having consistent access to customer’s data without any precaution. There are many reports about the illegal practices of data use of customers. God Views allows company officials to all tracking of Uber customers in real time and this information is displayed on the company parties for entertainment. One article mentions about the use of ride data to predict the sexual liaison. All these instances clearly breached the federal and state laws of privacy. The issue of privacy has engulfed the company because it is found that Uber company itself accepts that there were 2.7 million people affected by the security breach in 2016. Company also disclosed that there were 57 million people were affected by the breach of data that company covered up for more than a year. Uber application to obtain the new licence in London was rejected because company was not found a proper private taxi operator. But the most threatening part of Uber company is rape cases. It was revealed that in London there were 32 rape cases and sex attacks took place on London passenger in the duration of 12 months. But the most shocking fact is the improper handling of cases the company management. Company did not intimate police officers after the first offence and this showed the lack of initiatives for safety by it.
Uber company is also alleged to not having safety system and emergency button in the case of such sexual assaults. Clearly the local authority demands from the company to put these equipments inside the cab but it is not considered by Uber (Dray, 2017).
GPS
Car tracking
These unethical practices and lack of security features in the cars require Uber to reconsider its strategy to access the cars movement. Therefore this report suggests using RFID tags for movement of cars. It also suggests using the cloud computing for security of data. Along with these, the company should promote the ethical training about the use of data by its employees.
Constituents of strategic information system strategy
The components of the strategic information system are analysed in terms of its role offering competitive advantages to the Uber Company and its orientation towards the mission and vision of the company. It is a system that merges with the business technology of the company.
The constituents of the information system strategy are business objectives of company, changing marketing conditions, external and internal environmental forces...
