Purpose:
Interview Exercise
This two-part exercise will prepare you for a job interview. Specifically, you’ll research a company before an interview and prepare a list of potential interview questions
Company: Department of Civil Service
Directions:
· First, revisit the job descriptions you submitted in Week 2. Pick one position you’d like to apply and carefully review the job requirements and/or qualifications.
· Drawing on your group discussion last week about the job candidate’s interview responses, write down 3 interview questions that are most likely to be asked for the advertised position you picked. For each interview question, write a response (please keep it to 1⁄2 page or less for each question).
· Lastly, do research on the company and come up with at least 1 fact that could lead to interesting conversation or a question you’ll ask at the end of your interview. When you are invited to a job or internship interview, you must prepare extensively for the interview. Most people know, for instance, that Google administers a test to applicants. Every interview ends with time for the applicant to ask questions, specifically about areas that cannot be readily found out on websites.

Weeks 2 Job description:
Last week Interview:

I would not hire the applicant
The applicant seems like a confident and outgoing individual and has a good purpose in joining our company. Since a relative had been treated in our hospital, he/she would also have the right motivation to be a part of our team. However, the vague responses provided by the applicant to the vital questions posed during the interview discouraged me from selecting him/her.
There is more than one reason I would not hire the applicant. One reason is that he/she does not have any particular direction with regards to his/her education or skills he/she has and how he/she could use these to support the company or others. He/she also has an aim or motivation regarding what he/she would like to pursue in the future with the training and work experience he/she would receive.
Except for the initial response regarding his/her reason to join the company, the applicant wasn’t able to respond with any specific answers to any of the questions posed to him/her. All his/her answers have been vague and unclear. This has prompted me to conclude that the applicant isn’t clear on what he/she wants by taking up this job or what he/she wants in general.
Our internship program is designed to help applicants develop their IT skills and further their careers and knowledge as a way to contribute to fighting against cancer. This will help them develop their personality, further their chances in their career as well as give them a higher purpose to work for in the future. If the applicant fails to understand the meaning behind this opportunity, the opportunity itself won’t be worth it. The current application is not clear on having any direction or aspiration with regards to what he/she wants to do as a result, I fear our efforts may not be well utilized. I thereby conclude that it is better not to hire this applicant and instead look for another applicant who would be more conscious about what they want from this opportunity.
An ideal applicant would be someone confident, outgoing, and knows what he/she wants from this job and how he/she can utilize it to further his/her career and create a better future for himself/herself and others (Palazzo & Kleiner, 2002). Our current applicant is bright and outgoing but he/she does not have the qualities we are looking for and hence he/she has been rejected.
