Using A Critical Response to Bertrand Russell’s Why I Am Not a Christian: In this paper I would like you to focus on Russell's assertion that fear is what motivates religious belief. Is Russell's view correct? Why or why not? Russell tries to steer any intellectual argument for God's existence away to this emotional factor, because he believes it is emotion that motivates people's belief. He thereby thinks we should abandon religious belief in favor of science, but in addition he believes that rejecting religion gets us into a more honest approach to life and a truer knowledge of it therein. Is he right about this? Why or why not? If you disagree with Russell about fear being what motivates religious belief, then what arguments do you have against this? Keep in mind, these questions and considerations are not put forth for you necessarily as writing prompts for you to respond to directly. They are there as guidelines for your main idea in this reflection.
