Use your Starry Night Enthusiast™ software to locate the bright stars listed in Appendix Table E-6 visible from your location. Click the Home button in the toolbar and then click the Stop button in the toolbar to stop time flow. Set the time in the program to your proposed observing time tonight. Open the Options pane and expand the Constellations layer. Display the major features of the constellations by selecting Boundaries, Labels and Stick Figures options. Locate and form a list of a set of the stars in Appendix Table E-6 that are visible to you tonight by opening the Find pane, typing the name of each object in turn and pressing the Enter key. Ignore (choose Cancel) the stars that the computer says are not visible tonight or are never visible from your location. Include in your list their apparent magnitudes and the constellations in which they can be found, and arrange to observe them. You may find it helpful to print out relevant star charts around these chosen stars, using Starry Night Enthusiast™. You can determine how well you can distinguish between stars of different brightness by comparing stars of similar but different magnitude, such as Antares and Spica, for example. You can use your star charts and identify and observe other stars, estimating their chart using Starry Night Enthusiast™ that indicates apparent magnitudes of stars in any region.
