Use the Starry Night Enthusiast™ software to observe the moons of Jupiter. Select Favourites Guides Atlas from the menu. Open the Find pane and double click the entry for Jupiter to center the planet in the view. Close the Find pane and use the Zoom buttons in the toolbar to set the field of view to about 15 arcmin (15’) wide. a. Note the positions of the moons. Using the single step button |, step time forward in increments of six hours and draw the positions of the moons for ten consecutive times step. b. From your drawings, can you tell which moon orbits closest to Jupiter and which orbits farthest away? Explain your reasoning. c. Determine the periods of orbits of these moons (change the length of the timestep, if necessary). d. Are there times when you see fewer than four Galilean moons? What has happened to the other moons at those times?
