Determine the total number of possible models when there are nine independent variables, as in the peak water flow problem. Your computing resources may not permit computing all possible regressions. Use a program such as the METHOD = RSQUARE option in PROC REG (SAS Institute, Inc., 1989b) to find the n = 6 “best” subsets in each stage. This will require using the SELECT = n option. Plot the behavior of the Cp statistic and determine the “best” model.
