Use the hand solution to Prob. 9.4 as a guide to expand the computer template from Prob. 9.4. The expanded template should evaluate the diaphragm chord forces and collector forces. In addition to maximum chord forces, the template should allow the user to select various arbitrary locations for the evaluation of chord and strut forces.
Prob. 9.4
Given: The single-story wood-frame warehouse in Fig. 9.B. Roof Sheathing of -in. 24/0 span-rated STRUCTURAL I sheathing is adequate for vertical “sheathing” loads. Strength level seismic lateral forces to roof diaphragm are
Find:
a. Design the roof diaphragm, considering lateral forces in both directions. Show all criteria including design shears, load cases, tabulated shears, and nailing requirements. If blocking is required, determine at what points it can be omitted.
b. Calculate the maximum chord forces for both lateral forces. Also calculate the chord forces at the ends of all headers in the exterior walls.
c. Plot the distribution of the strut force for each of the walls with openings. Compare the strut forces and chord forces to determine the critical loading.
