Use the hand solution to Prob. 10.3 as a guide to develop a computer template to solve similar problems.
a. Consider only the specific criteria given in the problems.
b. Expand the template to handle any unit shear covered in IBC. In other words, input the values from the tables into a spreadsheet table or database and have the template return the required nail specification and blocking requirements.
Prob. 10.3
Given: The single-story wood-frame building in Fig. 10.A. The transverse lateral wind force (not shown in the sketch) is 375 lb/ft. The dead load of the roof and the wall is 250 lb/ft along the wall. Texture 1-11 (Sec. 8.13) plywood siding is applied directly to studs spaced 16-in o.c.
Find: a. Unit shear in the roof diaphragm and in the shearwalls along lines A and B.
b. The required nailing for the plywood siding to function as a shear segment. Use galvanized casing nails. Show all criteria. Check the proportions of the shear segment.
c. The net design uplift force at the base of the shear segment chords.
