Use the case material in the Appendix to illustrate each of the following statements by Maslow: (a) “People [who] perceive in a deep way that they have done wrong to themselves … despise themselves for it.” (b) “[Excessive external pressures, and] demands upon the child that it become what the parent has already decided it should become, [are like being] born into an invisible straitjacket.” (c) “The neurotic is not [only] emotionally sick—he is cognitively wrong!” (d) “The healthy taste for the novel and unknown is missing, or at a minimum, in the average neurotic.”
