Use Starry Night Enthusiast™ to see if you can identify the zodiac constellations that are visible in the sky this evening. Stop the advance of time by clicking the Stop button () in the toolbar and then set the time to some time after sunset. Now use the Hand Tool to “grab” and move the sky until you recognize the zodiac constellations. To see if you are correct, right click over the region if you are using a PC (Ctrl-click on a Mac) of the constellation and its name or the name of a star in it (often with the root name of the constellation on the end of it) will appear on the top line of the box. Identifying constellations is often a challenge on the computer because the sky is so compressed. You might find it helpful to grab and move the sky around until you find some of the more familiar constellations, such as Orion or Ursa Major and use these for reference. Also, once you find a zodiac constellation, others will be adjacent to it. If you still have difficulty finding zodiac constellations, click on the Options tab to open the Options pane, expand the Guides layer and click on The Ecliptic to highlight the part of the sky along which the zodiac is located. If you still have trouble, open the Constellations layer and click on Stick Figures (Astronomical). If you need even more help, click the Auto Identify option. Then, as you center a constellation on the screen, its name and classical image will appear. Make a list of the zodiac constellations that are visible to you today. Click the Home button in the toolbar to return to your home location and to the present time. Click the Stop button once again. To determine which zodiac constellation the Sun is passing through today, change the time in the toolbar to 12:00:00 PM and use the Hand Tool to find the Sun in the sky. Then select View Hide Daylight from the menu. Find the Sun and determine in which constellation it is located. The steps described above may help.
