Article: Empowerment theory, research and application
The article outlined findings regarding meaning and significance of empowerment concept in business world, along with problems associated with it. It has presented synopses of psychological empowerment theory and community based research regarding empowerment outlining critical themes and lessons regarding empowerment concept. The findings concluded that empowerment is implemented in wide diversified setting with the main theme of improving strengths and competencies of coping with social and environment dynamics. Empowerment theory and interventions is closely linked to individual well-being as it works on constructs and variables of mental health, mutual help and responsive community (Perkins and Zimmerman, 2015). The organisation’s culture is transformed significantly through compelling everyone to think and emphasis wellness over illness, competence over deficits, and strength over weaknesses. In all, empowerment research and theory is based on identifying and improving capabilities instead of merely searching for risk and threatening factors. Empowerment oriented interventions also aims at ameliorate problems, searching and offering new and fostering opportunities for improving knowledge and skills (Perkins and Zimmerman, 2015).
Definitions and concept of empowerment abound and adopted at large scale around the world.
