Organizational Behavior and Bhopal gas Tragedy: A case Study
Introduction
    Organizational behavior is carried out as a mandatory practice in order to meet the needs and expectations of not only the ma
rket but also of the employees who look forward positively to the company. In fact, organizational behavior is determined by many factors, including how the corporate culture is carried out as well as how well the organization is bringing forth the commitment to the CSR practices (Broughton, 2005). However, there are some landmark cases in history where the organizational behavior became questionable under extreme conditions; Bhopal gas tragedy is one of such events in history where Union Carbide, the company responsible for taking care of the safety precautions at the site of the gas plant, was accused of killing thousands innocents lives and at the same time, the ethical considerations which the company was supposed to highlight were not well carried out.
The Background of the Case
    At first, it is significant to note the contextual elements under which, the gas tragedy is said to be the failure of perfect organizational behavior. On December 3rd, 1984, 40 tons of methyl isocyanate was leaked from the plant located in Bhopal, governed by US based company Union carbide corporation (UCC). In fact, the collaboration of Indian government with US Company in 1970s resulted in the form of this plant. Indian government insisted the foreign organizations in that decade to invest and manufacture the goods and services which were locally popular in Asian regions. As a result of the same, the production of Sevin, one of the popular pesticides began through this collaborative venture of UCC with Indian government (Broughton, 2005).
    However, during the year of 1984, agricultural conditions in India were not in good shape, causing decreased production of the pesticides.
