United in Anger: A History of ACT UP
The main thing about the film is fighting for your precious ones because we sometimes do not
get the chance, it hits inextinguishably and we are left smoldering in the ashes of what must have been. This is the reason why we cry reading about bullying teenagers who have fallen into suicide. We would have wanted to always be there to guard them and keep them safe and alive. We mourn them as such, they are our family.
This thought is part of what drives the constant love based tension throughout United in Anger. In NYC, around the eighties, the audience is plunged directly into the life of the AIDS epidemic. Now maybe none of us ever would like to be, but we are being implored to witness the journey. When I watched the movie, I finally had the most relevant and visceral experience in queer culture, crying and feeling all the emotions about people I've never met, dying right before our eyes. However, that is not united in Anger's sole point. . The trauma placed on families – the queer one created to maybe replace a biologic one, which can or cannot sustain life – is so much greater than that.
