Assessment Task:



The purpose of this assessment is to allow students take on a management perspective to analyse organisational change and propose recommendations with the aim of improving the situation.
This project seeks to create a case study of an organization that requires a change intervention.


Students will be required to choose an organisation that they are familiar with and analyse it using relevant change management theories or frameworks to identify areas where change is required. Relevant change intervention strategies are to be proposed.




The organisational change project covers the following:


1. An introduction to the organisation.


2. Internal and external analysis of the organisation to identify areas requiring change (at the end of this section, include a summary of the areas where change is required)


3. Literature review – overview of change management theories or frameworks


4. Evaluation of possible change strategies required to improve the situation.


5. Recommendations of the most suitable strategies.


6. Required resources for implementing the identified suitable strategies.


7. Conclusion

Introduction
    For an organisation to carry its operations effectively and efficiently it is extremely important th
at the organisation focuses on its processes of implementing organisational learning within an organisation. Organisational learning can be defined as process of creating, transferring and retaining information within an organisation, which has been gained through experiences over a period of time (Sujan & Furniss, 2015). Through the process of organisational learning top level management and managers of the organisation can transfer their individual knowledge down the organisational hierarchy. This will help to make informed strategic decisions for the betterment of the organisation. Organisational learning theory is used to define the processes and methods, which shall assist the organisation to create and transfer the knowledge within the organisation. This theory suggests that for an organisation to grow sustainably and achieve its goals, it is necessary that the organisation may change its goals and objectives with the help of experiences and knowledge gained over a period of time.

    Apple is a well known multinational technology company with its headquarters in California, America. The brand is known all over the world for its designs and development of consumer electronics, computer software and online services. Not only does apple designs and develops latest technology but also sells the latest technology into the market and is one of the top four technology companies in the world. Apple was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in the year 1976. Other services of Apple include music services named iTunes. The management of the organisation has been able to manage the business operations of Apple efficiently by making informed strategic decisions for the growth of the organisation based on the learning and knowledge gained by the organisation over a period of time. Apple as an organisation has faced several challenges particularly in the past 30 years but the organisation has managed to overcome all of them with its ability to be creative and innovative.

    Internal and external factors of a business organisation have a huge impact on the strategies deployed by the business to carry on its day to day business operations (Jenkins & Williamson, 2015). These factors also influence the decisions made by the top level management of the business while making strategic decisions for the overall growth and development of the organisation.
Internal analysis of Apple
    Internal analysis of Apple will help to identify the internal factors of the business, which can be controlled and altered by the business over a period of time to achieve the goals and objectives of the business, which have been amended based on the knowledge gained from the process of organisational learning. The most important internal factor affecting the performance of Apple is its most valuable asset i.e. the human resources or the employees of the organisation. The organisation believes in organising training and development programs for its employees in order to ensure that its workforce is up to date regarding the new and advanced technologies and also helps the employees to enhance their skills so that they may come up with innovative and creative ideas to design and develop exceptional products and services for which Apple is known all around the globe. Apple also focuses on developing an ethical workplace environment which may help the employees to focus on their work. Moreover, the management motivates its employees through monetary and non-monetary rewards, which helps to enhance the performance of the employees. As suggested by Mollah (2015) motivation is also important for the retention of employees. Focusing on the needs and wants of the employees has helped Apple to motivate its employees to align their personal goals with the overall goals and development of the organisation. The organisation believes that motivated employees provide better results and outcomes than unmotivated employees.
    Another major internal factor, which has played a significant role in the development of business strategies of Apple, is the attitude, thinking and orientation of the lead decision makers of the organisation. The leadership of the company has played a major role in the management of the company as well has made considerable contributions in maintain an ethical organisational culture within the company (Al-Ali et al., 2017). The leaders of the company focus on effective communication channels and believe that for an organisation to grow into the competitive market it is necessary that the goals and objectives of the organisation must be clearly communicated to all the employees within an organisation. The leaders follow a transformational leadership style and have clearly defined responsibilities to individuals and teams. They also involve their subordinates for making important decisions, which helps to create a sense of belongingness among the employees. The leaders thrive to manage the teams efficiently in order to avoid conflicts within the organisation. They help their teammates to focus on the points of agreements rather than focusing on the points of differences. Managers have managed to provide formal structure and direction to the operations of the business.
    Legal risks also play a significant role in determining the organisational strategies of Apple. Changes in industrial regulations and tax laws greatly influence the operations of an organisation like Apple. New laws can have a significant impact on the profitability of Apple forcing it to modify its business strategies so that the organisation can make a lot of profit.
