Introduction
There existed some exclusion for women in the U.S Armed Forces and one the major reasons identified behind those exclusions is gender discrimination. It would be essential to consider that despite of being characterizing women equal to men, there a number of roles and responsibilities that are not available for women. Women have the ability to serve different and diverse roles and even more diverse than men. However, still they are provided equal participation with respect to combat roles. This essay focuses upon the aspect and rationales behind not providing women with combat roles. Further, efforts will be made in order to identify roles for women that would reflect equality in every aspect along with their pros and cons.
Justification for Drafting Women with Men
When it comes to equality among males and females in military, a number of aspects comes into play and it is essential to consider before justifying why women must be provided jobs and roles equivalent to men. Working with military should be considered as a job and therefore employees must be treated like any other job field. All opportunities must be open to both men as well women yet, U.S Military keeps women devoid of certain roles and responsibilities. The standard intermediate scrutiny implied by U.S government allows treating men and women differently.
As a result of this, even after allowing women to be a part of combat roles, the Selective Service System only allows men to be a part of it. Henshaw (2016) mentioned that women have been combating unofficially form a very long time duration and this can be evident form armed rebel groups of 1990s and women participation in them. Further, it has been suggested that without including females or discriminating women will not justify the concept of women empowerment, as it will directly point towards discrimination.
