Introduction
Governments all over world have made many changes in legislation and introduced policies to protect people at risk. There are many policies introduced by governments to protect women, children, disabled people, and elderly persons. Women, children, and elderly are more vulnerable and need to be protected. One of the pressing concerns, which makes families at risk are domestic violence.
This is a global social issue, which not only affect the women but also children in the family. Children equally suffer from domestic violence. In Australia, there are numerous cases of domestic violence registered due to varied reasons (Government of Western Australia, 2019). In Australia, it has been seen that domestic violence can occur because women are passively hinted at bearing the violence.
They remain dependent on their husband for financial support and social recognition. Most of the women remain silently for the sake of their children but their suffering does not safeguard their children from violence as well. Government had introduced Family Violence Protection Act, 2008 to mitigate the issue.

Principle Behind the Act
As per the Family Violence Protection Act, 2008, in enacting of this act will enable the government to recognise some of the important principles of family life. These principles include promotion of the non-violence as fundamental social value. It recognises family violence as a fundamental violation of Human Rights, which must not be accepted under any circumstances.
It ensures that family violence is not accepted in any community and culture. This act will respond to the cases of family violence and promote the safety of people, who have experienced family violence. The justice system aims at treating all the victim of family violence with respect (Legislation, 2019).
Recognition of Family Violence
Under this act, parliament recognises family violence can affect any member of a family. Family violence, which is predominantly committed by men against women, children, and other vulnerable people. It recognised that children, when exposed to the family violence become vulnerable and have severe impact on children’s current and future psychological, physical, and emotional well-being.
This act recognised that family violence affects the entire community and occurs in all part of the society irrespective of location, culture, gender, ability, ethnicity, and religion. It noted that family violence is beyond sexual and physical violence and it includes psychological, economical, and emotional abuse.
