Describe basic computer structure and operation; b. List factors that may affect computer performance, diagnose basic computer problems and perform some hardware troubleshooting; c. Report on different integer number systems and convert between them; d. Explain floating point representations using the IEEE754 standard; e. Describe basic electrical primitives; f. Describe drivers of future change in computing. Weight 20% Total Marks 60 Word limit 1500-1800 Due Date Thursday 29/9/2022 at 11:59PM Submission Guidelines · All work must be submitted on Moodle by the due date along with a title Page. · The assignment must be in MS Word format, 1.5 spacing, 11-pt Calibri (Body) font and 2.54 cm margins on all four sides of your page with appropriate section headings. · Reference sources must be cited in the text of the report, and listed appropriately at the end in a reference list using IEEE referencing style. Extension • If an extension of time to submit work is required, a Special Consideration Application must be submitted directly to the School's Administration Officer, in Melbourne on Level 6 or in Sydney on Level 7. You must submit this application three working days prior to the due date of the assignment. Depending on the seriousness of the case, penalties can vary from a written warning or zero marks to exclusion from the course or rescinding the degree. Students should make themselves familiar with the full policy and procedure available at: http://www.mit.edu.au/about-mit/institute-publications/policiesprocedures-and-guidelines/Plagiarism-Academic-Misconduct-Policy- Procedure. For further information, please refer to the Academic Integrity Section in your Unit Description. y: Assignment Description This an individual assignment. The assignment consists of three parts. The detailed description of each part is given in following sections. A. Computer Organisation & Architecture, Embedded Systems, and Applications [20 Marks] 1. What is RAID (redundant array of independent disks)? Report the working mechanism of RAID. Briefly discuss RAID levels. Differentiate between hardware RAID and software RAID. 2. Why are interrupts used in a computer? Highlight the drawbacks of disabling interrupts? Give an appropriate example. 3. Discuss the importance of embedded systems in industry. Discuss one application enabled with embedded systems. B. Arithmetic & Logic Operations, and Electrical Primitives [30 Marks] 1. With a detailed step-by-step process, convert the following decimal numbers into binary, IEEE754 16 bits and Hexadecimal formats. i. -193.nn (where nn represents last two digits of your MIT ID) ii. 1/(m.3) (where m represents the last digit of your MIT ID) 2. Construct the digital circuit with Logisim (or another online simulator) for following expression. The circuit has one output F and three inputs A, B, and C. Also write the truth table. F = ((A. B) + C̅)((A̅ ⊕ B) + C)(A̅ + B + C̅) 3. Explain Ohm’s law with the help of a graph. Two 24V Batteries in series, are connected to three resistors which are in parallel. Values of the resistors are 12, 18 and 24 ohms. Draw the circuit diagram for this scenario. Find the current flowing through the circuit. C. Reflective Journal [5 Marks] Write a reflective journal descripting your experience with Platform Technologies (BN103) in T2 2022 covering the period of eleven weeks (from week 1 to week 11). You must reflect upon your learning experience so far. D. References [5 Marks] Must consider at least 06 current references from journal/conference papers and books. Must follow IEEE style. Submission Guidelines · Do not use Wikipedia as a source or a reference. · Make sure you properly reference any diagram/graphics used in the assignment.
