Question 1
a. Project can be defined as something that comprises of an endeavour that is temporary and shall be undertaken for creating unique form of outcome / service / product. It can also be stated that projects represent management environment which has been created to meet purposes concerning delivery of one or else a greater number of business products in alignment to the specification of business case.
In essence, projects are temporary in nature possessing well-defined start point as well as an end point schedule wise, and hence defined set of scope as well as resources. Further projects are unique in the manner that they are never routine / daily operation and comprising specific group of tasks / operations that is designed for accomplishing specific goal. Hence the project team usually comprise people who do not work together generally and at times from varied organizations and spanning different geographic locations.
b. The five general phases in any project include the following – [i] initiation, [ii] planning, [iii] execution, [iv] monitoring & control, and [v] closure.
Question 2
Time, cost, and quality represent key elements of a project, and iron triangle / triple constraints framework effectively indicate influence on projects. This framework states that: [i] quality concerning the project shall be constrained on account of the deadlines (time), budget (cost), as well as project scope (features), [ii] project manager could trade amongst the constraints, and [iii] changes with respect to one of the constraints shall make it essential for changes over others to be compensated or else quality shall suffer (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017; Harrison & Lock, 2017; Milosevic & Martinelli, 2016; Nicholas & Steyn, 2017).
In this context, time constraint pertains to the time that is available for completing the specific project. Cost constraint pertains to budgeted amount that is made available to specific project. Quality constraint concerns what has to be undertaken for producing the required end result in the project (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017; Harrison & Lock, 2017; Milosevic & Martinelli, 2016; Nicholas & Steyn, 2017). The said three constraints shall often be stated as competing constraints, that is, increased levels of quality shall usually mean increased cost as well as time, tighter time constraint shall mean higher costs as well as reduced quality, and tighter costs can mean increased levels of time as well as reduced quality (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017; Harrison & Lock, 2017; Milosevic & Martinelli, 2016; Nicholas & Steyn, 2017).
Question 3
Any project can be successful only when the said project attains the objectives as well as meets / exceeds expectations concerning its stakeholders. In this context, stakeholders refers to individuals who shall either have concern with respect to or else hold vested interest over the specific project (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017; Harrison & Lock, 2017; Milosevic & Martinelli, 2016; Nicholas & Steyn, 2017). They are individuals who shall be in an active manner be involved amongst work concerning the specific project or else possess something for either gaining or else losing on account of a project (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017; Harrison & Lock, 2017; Milosevic & Martinelli, 2016; Nicholas & Steyn, 2017). A project sponsor in general refers to executive within an organization having an authority for assigning the resources as well as enforcing decisions with respect to a project and hence one of the stakeholders. The various customer / sub-contractors / suppliers, as well as at times even government act as stakeholders as applicable (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017; Harrison & Lock, 2017; Milosevic & Martinelli, 2016; Nicholas & Steyn, 2017). A project manager, members of the project team, as well as managers from various departments within concerned entity are also stakeholders. In essence, it shall be critical for identifying all of the various stakeholders within the project during initial stages of planning.
The key stakeholders include the following –
· Top Management: top management shall include president / CEO of an organization, its directors, vice-presidents, divisional managers, corporate level operating committee, as well as similar others. The said people shall direct overall strategy, development, and growth in an organization (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017;...
