UNCLASSIFIED//FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY//PROTECTED BY PRIVACY ACT
I have a term paper that I need to complete and it about: Imagine what
would happen if, starting tomorrow, all cars were banned in the United
States. Write a paper exploring this issue. Here are some of the
questions you may answer.
1. How would the elimination of the automobile affect social, cultural
and economic arrangements in American society?
2. What adjustments would Americans have to make to effectively function
in an automobile-free society?
3. If forced, could Americans make such adjustments?
4. What would you personally have to give up and/or change about your
lifestyle to live in an automobile-free society?
5. If you had to, could you make such adjustments?
6. Finally, in which ways, if any, do you think that American society
and/or you would be better off without the automobile?
Need some help with this, it has to be in APA style, 4 to 6 paper
narrative, 1" margins, can include charts, figures, references etc.
Need this by Wednesday 10 April 2013.
If you can't help please let me know as soon as possible so I can try
to figure some things out with my schedule.

The American Life without Cars
It is an undeniable truth that the invention of different forms of automobile actually
changed the face of human society. No other inventions, in my opinion, have rendered so much
impact on the human society like the invention of cars and other forms of ve
hicles. Almost all
the societies of all the countries of the world have been either benefitted or harmed by the
immense developments in the realm of automobiles. But to be very specific the impact of cars on
the American society can be pointed out as the most significant and it can be said undoubtedly
that cars have now become the life blood for the Americans. So, it is imaginable that if suddenly
all cars are banned for certain reasons then the life of the Americans is going to be disrupted and
the primary endeavor in this paper is to analyze the modes of disruption and whether or not such
banning is going to render positive effects on the American populace who always like to be on
the move.
As stated earlier “cars have changed the way people live all over the world. They have
affected all aspects of society such as family life, the economy, and even the environment”
(LeisureLife, n.d.). But it is the Americans who for generations have experienced how cars can
change the way of life both in negative ways and in positive ways. Speaking about the positive
effects of the invention and the widespread use of cars it should be admitted that Americans
gradually became able to travel long distances away from their abode and through such travelling
their minds gradually became more tolerant due to coming in contact with people from different
zones and different cultures and it was cars that made it possible for the Americans to roam
about the country freely and this in turn infused a sense of freedom and liberty within the
American minds. But such advantages also became sorts of curse. It was due to this growing
sense of personal freedom and the growing urge to indulge in long distance travel by cars that in

the 1920s many American families lost their unity and integrity and this is because individual
family members started thinking of their own freedom about their own way of life without
paying heed to the needs of the family as a whole and gradually the families started falling apart
(Elliott, 2006). And it is such drastic changes ushered by the invention of cars in the realm of the
American social system that many Americans today, although being thoroughly dependent on
cars, think that a car is more a curse than a blessing for mankind.
I think that the sudden banning of cars is definitely going to disrupt the American way of
life but on the other hand Americans may become eager to embrace such situation and may also
try to adapt to the changing situations. Though such efforts may be rendered, eventually it will be
then harming the American life in a devastating manner. The elimination of the automobile will
surely hamper the...
