Research Shows… Unit 3 Assignment: Research Shows… Purpose You see and hear it all the time on television, radio, and the web. Someone is using research to back up their claim. “Research shows that ______________.” Throughout this course, you’ve been asked to consider the credibility of various sources of information. This is a key skill that will help you make informed choices about any topic, not just nutrition. In this assignment, you will locate, analyze, and summarize a research study based on a specific micronutrient. These research studies are often called evidence- based resources. The purpose of this assignment is to help you understand the difference between a scientific research study and the use of the words, “Research shows…” You will analyze research data to determine how a specific micronutrient impacts a specific population. Analyze research data to determine its relevance to daily nutrition (CLO 3) Steps to Complete the Task Step 1: Research 1. Read the chapters (3 and 9-11) associated with Unit 3. 2. Locate an evidence-based, research study covering nutritional information related to a specific vitamin or mineral. a. The article must be peer-reviewed and present a scientific study related to a water-soluble vitamin of interest to you. b. You are not looking for an article that discusses what the micronutrient is, but rather a study about how a specific micronutrient impacts a specific population. c. Look for studies that have the following (or very similar) section headings: i. Abstract ii. Purpose or Introduction iii. Research Method and Design iv. Results or Findings v. Conclusions vi.
