1st year Mechanical Mechanical Automation Technology Dr Peter Ryan Hydraulics Assignment 20% Waste compactor Problem description  A hydraulically operated automatic trash/waste compactor shown in figure 1 below operates in the following manner:  On the side of the machine there is a manually operated electronic button/level/switch, to extend the cylinder and compact the trash. The switches and any sensors should be wired to a PLC and the appropriate program should be written in Autosim to simulate how this program would operate.  You must add a method of retracting the cylinder. Clearly explain and justify this in the submission doc.  Hydraulic power is generated through a pump driven by an electric motor (you do not need to include the motor in your diagrams but should include the pump)  The operator can set the system pressure using a relief valve.  The operator can also set the speed at which the cylinder extends and retracts (Independently of each other) Figure 1 Electro-hydraulic trash compactor Assignment You are required to create a schematic for the above machine using Autosim. Include the hydraulic schematic, electrical schematic, and PLC program ladder diagram in your submission. The drawings should be submitted as an image in a word doc and should include a brief description of operation and list of parts. You are also required to submit you Autosim files. Once the above operation requirements are included, the rest of the design is left up to you. 1st year Mechanical Mechanical Automation Technology Dr Peter Ryan Electro-Pneumatic Design Assignment (20%) Die-Cast Magazine Problem description  The machine below is part of a machining station for a die-cast housing of a surveillance camera. When an electronic push button is pressed, a pneumatic cylinder (cylinder 1A) pushes a part from the magazine and clamps it in place. A second cylinder (2A) then clamps the part from 90o. Both cylinders should extend slowly to clamp the parts accurately. When the machining is finished a second electronic button is pushed to release the part from the clamps, both cylinders retract quickly. Assignment Draw out the circuit required to achieve the above objectives and create a word document, complete with names of components, and correct numbering of ports. Include a parts list and notes of the basic operation of the circuit for operators. Submit this Autosim file Please complete the below modifications and submit a final autosim file in addition to the basic file above. You should detail these new circuits in your word document. List any additional parts etc. 1. Modify the circuit above to include a safety cage or guard that would prevent the operator using the machine when the guard is not in place. 2. Additionally, include a sensor that would prevent the cylinders operating if there are no parts in the magazine.

Waste compactor
Hydraulic Schematic Design
Components:
1. Hydraulic Pump:
This will provide the hydraulic power needed to operate the cylinder.
2. Relief Valve: Installed to allow the operator to set the system pressure and prevent overpressure scenarios.
3. 4/3-way Directional Control Valve (DCV): Controls the flow of hydraulic fluid to either extend or retract the cylinder.
4. Hydraulic Cylinder: The main actuator that performs the compaction of trash.
5. Flow Control Valves: Used to adjust the cylinder's extension and retraction speed independently.
Operation:
· The hydraulic pump delivers fluid under pressure.
· The relief valve regulates the system pressure.
· The DCV directs the fluid either to the extend or retract port of the hydraulic cylinder.
· The flow control valves allow the operator to control the speed of the cylinder during its extension and retraction phases.
2. Electrical Schematic Design

1. PLC: Programmed to control the...
