Trauma is something that impacts numerous individuals and groups of individuals all over the world. Its effects on the developing brains of children and adolescents, however, can be devastating on an even greater level. Mental health professionals who work with children and adolescents must be prepared to deal with these effects, and must have the knowledge and skills to help these clients through it. Main Response For this discussion, begin by watching the 25-minute film Trauma, Brain, and Relationship: Helping the Children Heal. Then, in an initial post, summarize your learning. In particular, you might include: · how a child’s developing brain is affected by trauma. · how a child’s developing brain is affected by parental behavior. · what secure attachment is and how is it relevant to a child’s development and well-being. · some of the behavioral indicators/symptoms of childhood trauma, and what the effects of childhood trauma look like. · some interventions that are used to help children who have been traumatized. · what we should know about childhood trauma and resilience.
