Transitional Algorithms. Ask a classroom teacher if you can spend some time working with a student who is having trouble with paper-and-pencil computation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division, depending on age and grade level). See if you can figure out what the child’s problem is. You might try helping him or her by suggesting the use of one of the transitional algorithms described in this chapter.
