The article was written over the debate between allowing recess and the time utilised for recess to improve on some skills in students in schools in United States. Those who believe in the concept of recess have valid reasons to support it. They say it helps to refresh the mind from the hectic schedules. They think it makes kids free from monotonous routine and help them to concentrate faster for next schedule of classes. The argument against it given by other school of believers is that recess is a waste of time. They think students cannot learn by hanging on monkey bars instead they should be given some instructional inputs to improve on useful skills for life.
There is also focus on reducing time for recess in US and UK and various studies came into picture. Various schools laid different duration for recess time according to the age and grade of the student. It was not uniform throughout the country. Both the arguments do not have necessary supporting evidence and the absence of much anticipated research is the reason.
