Project Report and Presentation 301175 Internet of Things Page 1 of 2 IoT_S2_20ProjList.doc Project Report and Presentation Prepare and present an investigative report on a topic relevant to the unit material, which is of interest to you. While some topics are suggested below, you are encouraged to choose any other suitable topic (in which case, you need to seek approval before starting your work). Within a topic, after giving a brief general overview, you probably need to narrow down to some specific issues (e.g., architecture, protocols, applications, etc.). Grading for this task is based on the report and presentation content, organization and completeness, clarity, and creativity. This work is to be carried out by teams consisting of maximum three students. The Report must be submitted electronically before 11:30 AM 23rd of September 2020 as both PDF and Word (or other word processing) files through the vUWS site of the unit. The hard copy of the final report must also be submitted before the start of your presentation (see below). As a guide, the final report should be around 4000 words. Please use font size 11 pt (or 12 pt) and single spacing (double-column, if students prefer) with the following format • Title • Project member/s (name/s and SID/s) • Abstract • Introduction • Body of the report (sections numbered sequentially with appropriate heading and subsections, if needed). • Conclusion • References (that are used in the report and clearly referred to in the material of the report itself). The team should also present the report in the assigned presentation time on 23rd of September 2020. The presentation times would be assigned, in the order of suggested topics below that have been taken up. All members of the team need to share the presentation and/or be prepared to answer questions arising from the presentation and their report. Your presentation time is about 20 minutes and it should quickly but intelligently reveal your topic, your understanding of the topic examined, your critics (and possible proposals), and conclusions. Suggestion: try to limit your presentation to 15 minutes (leaving some room for questions) and 10 or 12 slides! In order to facilitate selection of project topics, each team must provide the information asked for in the following tables as soon as possible, but no later than by the end of class on 29th of July (Week 4). You will then be informed of the topic assigned to you through vUWS. Following that, you need to prepare your progress report, which outlines your topic and how you intend to carry out the work. It should be in the form of short (less than one page) synopsis of your project or case study. Your team will have a brief meeting with the Unit Convenor on 19th of August (Week 7), to discuss the progress report that you hand in at the start of the meeting. Suggested Topics 1. Emerging wireless communication technologies for the IoT 2. Evolution of wireless sensor networks towards the IoT 3. Emerging standards and technologies for the IoT 4. Integration of cloud computing and internet of things 5. IoT devices: Regulations, standards, and certifications 6. IoT mobility management and routing issues and solutions 7. IoT for smart home: Challenges and solutions 8. Smart city architecture and its applications based on IoT 9. IoT based architecture of web and smart home interface 10. Internet of Things
The Internet of Things is the mean next step of the information revolution which is greatly a great societal change on the Internet itself. the size of the Internet of things this estimated to be 20 - 50 billion things which are connected with each other and leads to the investment of $1.7 trillion. It has received the whole attention of the government, companies and citizens and hence giving rise for the research in the Academy and industry.
The Internet of things can be defined as a complex network which consists of technical and interactive components which are clustered around sensors, actuators and information processors. The objects have the cap ability to communicate with each other and delivers the power of the Internet of things. The
IoT has a network communication which alter the way all the technologies interact with each other and specially the physical relationship of the technologies is changed. It allows increase automation in the components restore the communicative capability of IoT has increased but it is not due to themselves. They have a motive of achieving something useful many using the intervention in the current world.
The sensing utility of the components will not exist in the public space, but it will be extended to apartments and homes. The people will have the capabilities to run energy, entertainment apps, security and health on the infrastructure. It would be easier to install and run new apps just like plugging the toaster into the electric utility. We can simply have one application which can monitor and control the heart rate and another one will be performing services related with the financial and investments. A separate application will be used for ordering food or event predicting the medical problem which should be addressed to avoid the problem in the healthcare (Radanliev, P., De Roure, D.C., Maple, C., Nurse, J.R., Nicolescu, R. and Ani, U.,).
There are devices which have communicative and information functions which have direct impact on the lives. The components of IoT have great impact on our lives which actually crates new paths for the malicious attacks. It is easier for the attackers access the physical target is really through the cyberspace instead of attacking them physically as the attackers do not need create an address for the physical access of the target. The information in security has some implications on the physical safety. It is easier to understand that the better path to follow is the recommendation of US Department of Commerce which says support a stable, trustworthy and secure IoT environment.
We have insecure IoT which do not have any increases on the ethical perspective it has. This is a very terrible situation in which we are living which are related with the new technologies and it says that the ethics are nowhere mentioned in the innovation of technologies. The fact which is true is that if the ethics are constituted and it comprising of philosophical dimensions and also the policy and legal components than this approach can be broadly known as normative if the ethics are too narrow to follow.
Most of the research shows that there are significant work present in the ethics of the new technology. It is a very broad OPEC and very difficult to find out the novel features of the Internet of things particular. Most of the work is related with the extracted discussion and it relates to the principal which says that it invites to consider broad targets and lessor risk and uncertainty without having any operational contact.
When we try to find out the risk and uncertainty matter then it is very hard to gain the traction for some domain. There is substantial work found on the ethics of the nanotechnology which helps to find out I use full model to think about the Internet of things. In this report we will discuss about the issues which are raised in the IoT field and this will prove that it is a dedicated area for research (Baldini, G., Botterman, M., Neisse, R. and Tallacchini, M).
There are 2 basic principle reasons for discussing issues in this report. The first one is that we can see these issues to be foundational and they have very different ethical issues which can be developed. the second one is that these issues are explored in other Contacts and we can try to draw some other thoughts for the analyzing purpose. The informed consent and the privacy have a very long story in the ethics field. The information security and safety are very less in the medical ethics literature but there is a list of extended treatments on the robotics and Internet ethics (Atlam, H.F. and Wills, G.B).
IoT
The Internet of things is mainly related with the perception of releasing that there is a global infrastructure in which there is connected networks for the virtual and physical objects. These objects are connected with each other music wired or wireless network and they can share information with multiple devices and create applications and services. Initially it was presented by the originator of MIT and he said that it has the potential to change the world as performed by the Internet. It was officially presented by the International Telecommunication Union. Different organization and researchers give different definitions for it (Ustek-Spilda, F., Powell, A., Shklovski, I. and Lehuede, S).
It was defined as a global infrastructure which was designed for the Information Society and it enables some advanced services just by interconnecting the things on the basis of their existence using interoperable communication technology. The Internet of things is also defined as it allows the things and people to stay connected anytime, anyplace using anything. The basic idea was to allow different things to stay connected with each other using the network and to create a better world for the human beings.
Privacy
The relation between the privacy and Internet of Things starts with the observation made when the devices are connected with the IoT is used to collect huge amount of the user data and if we can analyse this data and share it also. For example, a client has a habit of purchasing new things predicted that she was pregnant and shared a Mailer to promote baby items to be delivered to her home. She was pregnant but still in high school and her family had known about idea about this, but they came to know about this news because of the Mailer.
The target brain test after test, analyse the data and some useful pattern immersed in the database. One of the analyst found that a woman who has registered on the baby item was buying more quantities of lotion in her second trip Mister and another analyst noticed that in the first 20 weeks of the pregnancy she collected the supplements for calcium, zinc and magnesium. There are many shoppers who purchase cotton balls and so but they noticed that someone has started buying the scent free soap and big bags of the cotton balls along with the hand sanitizers which made them to understand that the delivery date is soon for the woman.
This created 2 issues. The first one is that the target was collecting information about the user data like the credit card or the new reward number related with the user and then this data was used to create a profile of her which correctly predicted that the woman was pregnant on the behavior of her purchase. If she was paying using cash, then this could not be possible. The second was that the target collected all the information and send the targeted mailing which made it noticeable for her parents. the creation of profile can be a good practice for the business, but it can be invasive and related with the issue of informed consent....
