TOPIC- PAN security and preventive techniques

Part 1: Selection of topic and Abstract (150 WORDS)

In this part of the assessment, you are required to submit:

  • The title and an abstract for your selected research project. The abstract will provide an overview of your selected topic, along with key security challenges in that area and why you have selected this to be your area of research.

  • A reference list at the end of the submission, that will have a maximum of two articles (at least one journal article) used to build your discussion for this abstract.

Part 2: Research report

(1500 WORDS
)

In this assessment, you are required to provide a complete report of your research topic, that you chose in Part 1 by completing the following aspects

  • Overview/Introduction of the selected topic,

  • Highlighting the challenges/problems in your chosen research topic,

  • Identification of any gaps in the literature by:

    • discussing areas/issues that you believe have been addressed in the current literature;

    • highlighting areas/issues that have not been addressed or adequately addressed; and

    • discussing your view(s) on the issue(s) that you see as being critical.

  • Summarize the future research directions based on the identified gaps.

To accomplish the above, you are expected to read and critically evaluate recent research in your selected research area by citing aminimumof 5 research articles. Students are encouraged to access such research articles from well known and reputed research portals such asIEEE, ACM, Springer, Wiley etc. Please note Wikipedia and general blogs will not be considered as reputable citations.

Abstract
In this report I have covered PAN security and its prevention technologies. PAN stands for personal area network and it is used to connect the IT devices and gadgets like cell phones, laptops, personal computer, printers, PDA or any other wearable device within an individual user’s environment. A personal area network
is related with the computer network which can be used to transmit the data among the electronic devices like telephones, computers and the other personal digital assistants. We can use the PANs to communicate with the personal devices which is also known as intrapersonal communication. They can also be used to connect to a network of higher level and the internet (Howitt, I., & Gutierrez, J. A.). The PAN has become very famous and has gained a lot of attention in the recent years due to its low rate communication among the devices which are near to the user and it also enables low-power. This paper contains a brief introduction about the PAN. The personal area network can be wired or wireless communication network which allows the near by digital devices to exchange the information using the nearfield electrostatic coupling. As PAN is handy and expedient, it also has few limitations.
Introduction
With the significant decrease in the size, power and cost of the electronic devise, the users have also started to adorn the bodies with the wearable digital devices like personal digital assistants, palmtops, cell phones, video games, wristwatches, digital camera, pagers, GPS receiver and many others. In general, a house has approximately the same or even larger number of devices which has increased the demand of a network which can handle all of them together in a manageable fashion. To solve this problem the concept of personal area network arose which was capable of enabling these devices to share the data. A PAN can be defined as a computer network which handle the interconnection between multiple digital devices present in the surrounding of an individual. The devices which can be involved in this network are mainly battery-operated, portable digital devices and wearable. These devices require very little current and are present within the 1 to 100 m. PAN allows these types of devices to communicate among themselves. Personal Area Network is designed for personal uses only because it has a can reach only to few meters. When the device is in this area can get plugged with any other device if they are in close proximity (Loh, M., & Tam, A.). We can use either a wired or wireless area network for the personal use. The wired network is used when the device is wired computer buses like USB and the FireWire. When we talk about the wireless PAN or also known as WPAN, it is based on the standard of IEEE 802.15 and it employ for the technologies like infrared, Bluetooth, ZigBee and the ultrawideband. The wireless PAN enables the devices like audio headsets, keyboards, mouse, printers to get connected with the cell phones, computers or the personal digital assistants. PAN also makes it possible to connect to the internet. PAN was basically introduced in the MIT’s media ab for the first time. Some people get confused with the PAN and LAN. But there is a difference of the infrastructure. PAN requires little or even no...
