Introduction
With the rapidly
evolving technologies and softwares, artificial intelligence has become an essential part of our lives and businesses. Artificial intelligence (AI) has been enabling machines to think like human beings and make important decisions. However, AI cannot be compared with human intelligence. As people are looking for sophisticated technologies, machines or softwares are preferring to involve human like intelligence. AI has brought a shift in the way modern healthcare industry is treating patients. A huge amount of data has been available with the doctors make it possible for them to treat the patients in a better manner. However, AI in healthcare has a number of legal and ethical issues associated with it. Experts have been voicing their concern that AI in healthcare have a number of ethical challenges associated with it. While working on a project that involves artificial intelligence in the healthcare sector there are number of legal and ethical factors that have to be taken into consideration. Through this report, the legal and ethical issues associated with the management of artificial intelligence-based healthcare projects have been highlighted. The report will also discuss about the technologies involved and the recent advancements in these technologies.
Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Industry
Artificial intelligence in general can be described as the stimulation of human intelligence by the computer system. This involves a number of processes such as learning, reasoning and self-correction. As far as artificial intelligence in the medical field or the healthcare industry is to be considered, it makes use of techniques of computer to perform the processes associated with clinical diagnosis and then suggest the patients the treatment, which are relevant. As AI has the capability of identifying and determining useful and meaningful relationships in a dataset, it is widely used in several clinical situations to diagnose and treat the patients (Jiang et al., 2017). Artificial intelligence techniques are also being used to predict the results.
Artificial intelligence in healthcare makes use of software and algorithms to imitate human intelligence so that complex medical data can be analysed. These AI-based applications in the healthcare industry are meant to analyse treatment techniques and prevention measures. These AI techniques and programs are being applied to practices such as development of drugs, diagnosis processes, development of treatment protocols, personalised patient monitoring and care and personalised medication. Complex algorithms and software are being deployed to emulate human cognition while performing tasks like analysis, interpretation, and comprehension of medical data, which is complex and complicated in nature.
Specialities in the field of medicine and healthcare have been researching thoroughly to enable the use of AI-based applications and technologies in areas such as radiology, screening, psychiatry, telehealth, disease diagnosis, primary care and maintaining electronic health records. AI has also been making its way to drug interactions and creation of new drugs (Davenport & Kalakota, 2019). Some of the major software development companies that have contributed to AI algorithms that can be used in healthcare industry are Watson Oncology of IBM. IBM has also been focusing on development of AI applications that can work on chronic disease treatment. Microsoft has been working on the development of AI algorithms in partnership with Oregon Health and Knight Cancer...
