Introduction
Although they make up half of the world's population, women have disproportionately higher rates of health and social problems. Following the successful execution of the First National Women's Health Policy, which was formed in 1989, the National Women's Health Strategy 2020-2030 was formulated. The National Women's Health Strategy 2020–2030 aims to "continue to enhance the health wellbeing of all women in Australia, particularly those at greatest risk of poor health (National Women’s Health Strategy,2020-2030)." The newly formulated strategy takes a two-pronged approach, focusing on both the health problems that already exist or are on the horizon and the health inequities caused by the socioeconomic determinants of health. This article will help readers better comprehend the National Women's Health Strategy 2020-2030 and critically appraise the most pressing health issues confronting Australian women now and in the not-too-distant future (National Women’s Health Strategy,2020-2030). There will be an examination of the policy's efficacy and a discussion of the problem's historical background, as well as references and evidence to back up claims and a recognition of key players. The goal of this paper is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the National Women's Health Strategy for the years 2020-2030.
Critical Discussion and Analysis
Overview
Understanding the impact of the First National Women's Health Policy on the health and wellbeing of Australian women is essential to a thorough examination of the National Women's Health Strategy for 2020–2030. Female life expectancy in Australia has increased relative to other nations as a result of the policy's effective execution. Much of this improvement is due to the advantages brought forth by a well-developed health care system and the wide distribution of effective drugs (National Women’s Health Strategy,2020-2030). The First National Health Strategy has worked on and, to some degree, succeeded in addressing the seven priority health problems for women. These concerns include sexuality and reproductive health, the health of ageing women, mental and emotional well-being violence against women, workplace health and safety, the health needs of women who are carers, and the health repercussions of sex-role stereotyping on women. The First National Health Strategy has worked on and, to some degree, succeeded in addressing these concerns. Successes of the policy include a drop in the rates of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and smoking (Azzopardi et al,2018).
It is undeniable that the First National Women's Health Policy has enhanced the health and longevity of Australian women by addressing seven key health concerns, however many women remain at a health disadvantage. According to the research, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women continue to face discrimination and inequality in the workplace. The research also showed that the primary causes for these subgroups of women were a dearth of health and wellness education, obstacles to receiving medical care, and inadequate pharmacological treatment (Borchers Arriagada et al,2020). To have a better grasp on this problem, it's important to recognise the many socioeconomic factors that may affect different groups of Australian women's access to the means necessary to achieve and maintain optimal health.
As a result of its obsolescence, it was also crucial to revise and update the National Women's Health Policy. Over the last decade and a half, women in Australia have seen significant social, economic, and technical development (2010-2022). In 2022, society faced very different issues, difficulties, solutions, and responses than in 2010. This meant that the Australian Department of Health and Ageing needed to formulate a strategy to deal with the problems that now face and will continue to face all Australian women (National Women’s Health Strategy,2020-2030).
In order to design and implement a plan that can be utilised for the next two decades, the National Women's Health strategy development team concentrated on tackling problems from two different angles. The first step was to identify existing and potential health issues and implement solutions. These health issues are divided into four categories: psychological wellbeing, sexual and reproductive, chronic illness prevention, and healthy ageing (National Women’s Health...
