Voting enjoys a long history. Earlier voting was done through drawing lo
ts, raising hands, manually casting ballots and punch cards. With the evolution of technology, electronic voting system came into being. Electronic voting system relies on using computers to calculate the number of votes cast for a particular candidate. However, the process is not as simple as that. Most voting systems, including the US voting system enjoy plenty of complications as well as challenges.
The US voting system evolved over the years as well, from paper ballots, to Australian voting system to punch cards and lever-based voting. This was followed by computerized equipment. Most states in the US today use a combination of both paper ballots and electronic voting. While ballot is still in use, all voting in the US rely to some degree or another on electronics. An election can be electronic if it involves electronics in any of the three parts of voting including voter authentication, voter preparation and vote management.
