To prepare for this Discussion, read Section 11 of the PMI course text and refresh your memory of the noted chapters from the Wysocki text that you read in previous modules.Based on personal experience or observation/research, describe an example of risk management success or failure, including the tools utilised. Why do you think the efforts were successful or unsuccessful? Would the use of a different project management model have produced a different outcome?( you have to comment on that in 250 words)
RE: Discussion Topic 1: Risk Management Success and Failure
COLLAPSE
I exanimate this case of study in a different subject, but I consider that it’s a great example to show how a highly risk project poorly manage can conclude in the failure of the project. The superconducting super collider was a project done in the united states of America estimated to last 10 to 12 years and had an estimated cost over 104 billon US$ to build the largest scientific instrument in the country. This magnitude of the project was the first done in the US that it’s why the request proposal was not well written, and to this proposal there was only one response (First risk identify). The problem with the lack of responses for the proposal had to be the first sign that something was wrong.Do the lack of knowledge in this kind of project the University Research Association that was the only one that rely the proposal, had experience in the scientific part of the project but when it came to the construction part of the project they did not the sufficient experience (second risk identify). The last part that leads to project failure was the lack of a communication management plan, the project was already gone over budget but to the importance of it and because it was been paid for the government this wasn’t an issue. The project was unsuccessful and I think that the main reason of this failure was that didn’t have a management plan well stablished this is the reason why they didn’t use any PMLC models. I think it will be important to consider that this project won’t be qualify as a traditional project, therefor I consider that this project should be mange as an Agile project. Agile projects can be interactive or adaptive, specifically for the Superconducting super collider I consider that the project management lifecycle (PMLC) model that they should have use is Adaptive PMLC, because there are so many uncertainties of the requirements and the solutions to achieve the main goal that is the construction of the Superconducting Super Collider (Wysocki, 2014).
