To become more skillful in handling others’ responses, it is important to examine your own feelings about the sensitive areas that are the focus of this chapter. Respond as honestly as possible to the following. With respect to your own sexuality, differing ethnic, religious, racial persons or groups, and disabled persons or populations: a. Cite any negative childhood experiences you had. b. Identify any faulty or stereotypic information you remember receiving. c. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being most comfortable, describe how comfortable you are related to your own sexuality and interaction with people different from you. d. Describe any negative adult experiences you have had related to these areas. e. Have your beliefs and thinking about individual differences changed during your adult years? If so, how? f. What social changes do you think need to take place in order to have less biased behavior related to these issues?
