Title: Short Project Proposal Details of task: Choose a real development problem in a real context. (You can choose to focus on the same development sector as you did in Task 2 but you must choose a different context.) Research the local context, local community and background to your chosen development problem. Using some of the tools and frameworks explored in the unit, prepare a brief development project (or program) proposal to address your chosen issue. Topics covered in the unit are: - Project Planning and Management in Participatory Development - Contextualising our practice: Development as Planned Change and the Role of "Project Management" - Building Participation into Project Planning & Management - Stakeholder Analysis (Participation Analysis) - Asset-Based Approaches and Sustainable Livelihoods - Participatory Analysis & Appraisal - Intro to PRA - Situation Analysis: Problem Trees, Objective Trees & Alternatives Analysis - Strategy Analysis & Project Design Using Logical Frameworks - Participatory Planning & Strategy Analysis in PRA Your proposal should include the following: Specific local context and background to the development issue; Situation analysis; Your development strategy and comparative evidence to support it (ie how has this problem been addressed in other international development contexts); Examples and explanations of the PPM frameworks and tools you used in developing the proposal. Explain how your chosen tools contribute to achieving your overarching strategy? Reference list. HERE IS A ROUGH OUTLINE for the sub-headings of how the assignment should be like: Introduction; Local context and explanation of the development issue addressed by the project; Situation analysis; The overarching project strategy being implemented in the project; Justification of that strategy by reference to development literature and previous effective projects in similar sectors or similar communities (so, you could draw upon the research you do for your group case study here if appropriate); Participation - a discussion of the role of participation in the project; Your Logical Framework (or other appropriate way of presenting and summarising your project) and explanation of the LogFrame; Approach to M&E (this is very straightforward if you present a LogFrame, as M&E will be briefly summarised there); Expected impacts/ project benefits and conclusion. (Other PPM tools - present them where appropriate in the proposal. EG Problem tree under situation analysis; Gender analysis framework under situation analysis or project strategy, etc). So, looking at those aspects or sub-headings, hopefully you can see that it is very important to justify your overall project strategy, and be clear about how your PPM tools, and approach to participation, contribute to that overarching strategy. NOTE: Please make sure that all these aspects are included of the development project, and incorporating the topics covered (e.g. problem/solution tree for situation analysis section of the assignment) and so on! Any development project case study around the world is valid, from villages in India, to any development projects in Peru.
