    Hi, you are listening to
the “foundation of being numerate in the early childhood” podcast and I am Mohi. The podcast that I am going to deliver this week will explore the foundations of being numerate in age of 7 to 8 years in the 21st century. The podcast shall draw your focus to an analytical discussion on becoming a numerate at this early age. Through this podcast, I will also share my personal and professional experience of being a numerate.

The rapid evolution of digital technologies has created a huge impact on our learning habits. Numbers now mostly come to us in the form of graphs, statistics and figures. The everyday written material or verbal communication we come across is full of numbers, charts and data. These numbers might have been fascinating you as you begin to realise the numbers in the environment around you and begin to discuss their purpose. For instance, the numbers around you might show you the house number or location you are in. Bus numbers might help you to know your destination and many more such numbers have been a part of your everyday life.
At the age of 8 years, you might now be familiar with number and must be knowing to count them forward and backward. It is now the time to move a step ahead by improving your numeracy skills and becoming a numerate. At this stage, it is essential that you learn to solve problems for instance you must be able to compare the price and quantity of two bars of chocolate.
