The decision making model is selected as the ethical dilemmas are solved most prominently through logics and facts. The ethical theory is concerned seeking the events and situations faced by the nurses.
Ethical Dilemma Relevant to the Profession of Nursing
The nursing profession is considered among one of the toughest profession as they are directly related to the life and health of a patient. Though the nurses perform their duty to the fullest considering the requirement of the patient as well as the instructions of the doctors but there are several situation which arises as an ethical dilemma for the Nurses in which they are not able to take the decision regarding what way should be chosen. One of such problem is the refusal of life saving treatment by the patients. The nurses and the doctors are inclined to give most appropriate healthcare services to the patients so that they could regain their health as soon as possible. But among all the process the consent of the patients or their family is also necessary as they are given the complete detail of the health of the person as well as their medication process (Rainer, Schneider & Lorenz, 2019).
There are numerous of case related to this dilemma as one of the most serious from of treatment refusal is when a patient completely refuses to receive a treatment that will save their life or could help in attaining the health quickly. Though in such cases the doctors or the nursing staff may have a clear opinion of the need to intervene but in such cases the customer disagree with the course of action. The treatment denied may refuse the life-saving surgery, using of some health equipment or the medication that have the capacity to prevent serious harm to the patient. This is one of the major ethical dilemma which is faced by the nursing staffs in some probable situations. This kind of dilemmas though have very few times to get sorted out but still there are ways to solve this out (Larkin et al., 2019).
Ethical Theory to Resolve the Dilemma
The ethical theory to resolve the Dilemma in this theory is Deontological ethical theory, which is also termed as the duty of ethics. The deontological ethic relies on the fact that an action could be considered morally good because of some of the characteristics related to the action itself, not because the product of the action is good. The ethics stick to the view point that some acts are morally obligatory irrespective of their consequences for the human welfare. The deontological principles were firstly defined by Immanuel Kant, who was a famous German philosopher. According to Kant nothing is good without qualification except a good will and a good will could be considered as those that wills to act in the accord with the moral law. It focuses on the credibility of the action (Wang & Gupta, 2020).
