Through spirit possession, Maasai women enact their critique of changes to the core of indigenous culture that adversely affect their roles in their households and villages. In addition, women who are afflicted by spirits seek cures through Christian baptism and remain healthy by participating in group meetings with other victims. Christian baptism can, in this context, also be seen as a rejection of dominant male norms because men in particular have converted to Islam in the last century.
