Three essay topics are provided and you are required to select one.
Relate to your experience of facilitation of learning in the practice setting if relevant in relation to your assignment.
The essay should be structured as follows:
an introduction to focus the topic, an aim and the issues addressed in the selected essay (Max 500 words)
a main body which presents the issues identified in the introduction, discussed in a critical way and supported by relevant literature (2000 Words).
a conclusion which captures the main points of your essay and draws a conclusion to the essay (Max 500 words).
if appropriate and supportive of your essay relevant documentation may be attached as an appendix.
The essay must be;
appropriately referenced using the Harvard referencing style within the essay and in the reference list.
submitted as per written assignment regulations contained in the School Handbook.

A. With reference to your clinical teaching experience, critically discuss the use of one assessment strategy that may be used to assess clinical competence.
Examples of assessment strategies;
Reflective writing
Observed practice
Critical incident analysis
Objective structured clinical assessment
Multiple-choice assessment
Written examination
Student clinical interview
Portfolio
You must have experience of using the assessment strategy chosen for the assignment. The assessment strategy may be included with the assignment if appropriate.
OR
B. Analyse an educational or a management issue in which you have been involved during your teaching in the practice environment. Critically discuss the approach used to manage the issue.
Some examples:
Management of a student issue:
Dealing with an anxious/distressed student.
Management of student discipline/professional behaviour.
Dealing with poor educational performance of a student in the practice environment. For example a student having difficulty achieving competence.
Management of a clinical issue:
Audit of the clinical learning environment.
Implementing/supporting the introduction of a preceptor programme.


A brief outline of the context of the issue or tools used to address the issue should be attached as an appendix with this essay.

C. With reference to your own clinical teaching experience, critically discuss a strategy that may be used to promote an effective clinical learning environment.
