Alternative Correctional Setting
The criminal justice system has been enriched and strengthened through the inclusion
of alternative correctional settings which include community correction centers. For the
prevention of crime the alternative correctional systems have been proved worthy to a large
extent. But like any other forms of correction, the alternative correctional systems have both
their pros and cons. And to elaborate on them it is better to focus on the community
correctional centers that have gained much popularity as alternative correctional system over
the years.
Community corrections involve “the management and supervision of offenders in the
community. These offenders are serving cout-imposed orders either as an alternative to
imprisonment or as a condition of their release on parole from prison. This means they must
reort regularly to their community corrections officer and they have to participate I unpaid
community work and rehabilitation programs” (Corrections, prisons & Parole, 2017). Though
it has been often opined that community correctional centers are better than convention
prison arrangement from different perspectives, there are still some cons related to the
functioning of community correctional centers. From the financial perspectives, the
establishment of community correctional facilities seems quite a valid step that has been
