. This week, we're studying John Rawls and his social contract theory. Rawls argued that we can derive two principles of justice, by considering a thought experiment, behind the veil of ignorance, which strips people of knowledge about their individual circumstances and characteristics. In such a situation, if given the opportunity, individuals would choose principles that are impartial, in that they don't favor any one group, and non-arbitrary, in that they don't favor characteristics that one is not responsible for, such as one's situation at birth. The two principles that would be chosen would be the two principles of justice. In yourfirstpost, answer this question: are there any social structures, characteristics, or institutions in this country currently, that violate either or both of these two principles? Explain what the social structure is, and describe why it violates one or the other principle and thus, why it is unjust. Your first post is due by Wednesday at 9pm. While I encourage you to type your post into a word processor to check for spelling and grammar errors, please don't "attach": simply copy/paste your issue into the discussion box. Forum responses should be 200+ words, and include a "references" or "works cited" section.
