This unit provides an overview of the fundamental approaches employed in research, specifically
focusing on the range of research techniques used in the business and project management
disciplines. It is normally completed in the last semester of student’s course and focuses on formal
academic research that will draw upon the studies completed beforehand. In this unit, students
select topic underpinning disciplines in business and project management, develop a research
plan, conduct the respective research, and present their research project in written academic
format and orally to their research supervisors, peers and invited academics.
This unit is a core unit in the MBPM program and an elective unit in the MBA program.
1.2 Unit Learning Outcomes (ULOs)
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
[ULO1] Apply knowledge and elaborate the methods and techniques involved in planning and
executing a research project.
[ULO2] Develop and implement a conceptual framework for a research problem and assess the
conceptual model.
[ULO3] Develop appropriate methodologies and measurement instruments for data collection.
[ULO4] Interpret findings and write a research report employing scholarly standards.
