This unit culminates with the composition of a classical argument essay.
Topic: Your essay should focus on an issue you see within education today. Your essay should take a position on the issue and argue it using reliable sources, most of which should come from the Glendale Community College library or its research databases. (Do not use biased sources, or sources without authors.)
Organization: The essay will include an introduction, an argument-based thesis statement, a section containing the main argument, a section exploring the opposing viewpoint, and a refutation of that opposing view point.
Your essay should be approximately 1200 words in length.
Content: Your essay should take a position on the issue and argue it using reliable sources found through the Glendale Community College library.The essay must integrate source material to support the claims in the argument. These sources must be cited in MLA style.The essay must employ the rhetorical appeals of logos, ethos, and pathos, and the essay should avoid the trap of fallacious logic.
Voice: Write to an academic audience. Employ an appropriate voice and appropriate diction for this audience.
Presentation: Your paper must exhibit college-level writing. You should have few, if any, errors in spelling, sentence fluency and grammar.
