CEREMONIAL SPEECHES I. What you may/should do: 1. Choose a speech (accept or receive an award, eulogy, tribute). 2 You must use a prop (i.e. trophy, plaque). 3 This should be a 5-6 minute manuscript speech. Please do not use torn-out spiral paper or crumpled typing paper for a manuscript. 4 Please dress the part! For most of you, this will require that you dress formally. However, I have had students wear lab coats, cap and gowns, etc....depending on the setting. But, do not be underdressed! 5 Most students use a serious and/or emotional style for this speech, but feel free to use a humorous style. 6 Feel free to hand write notes on your script. For example, “SMILE”, “TAKE A BREATH”, “SLOW DOWN”. 7 Please use some gestures. Too many folks in the past have hands glues to their script or the podium. I want to see your words come alive! II. What you may NOT do: 1. No tributes to mom, dad, & other relatives. 2. Use a speech that you found on the internet, magazine, etc…. 3. Do not significantly go over/under the time limit. 4. Be under-dressed (No jeans, sweats, ripped clothes, etc…). 5. Some students tend to go monotone on a manuscript speech. 6. Honor bad behavior (i.e. stealing) Such topics risk a failing grade! 7. No Power point!
