What is the Purpose of the report?
The purpose of this report is to understand the transport industry, since it is one of the industry that is undergoing transformation on a drastic basis. The movement of people and goods would be revolutionised by the implementation of intelligent transport system by improving safety, environment and economics.( He, W., Yan, G., & Da Xu, L. (2014))
Automation of roadways, railways, airways and the sea ways are currently reshaping the passenger experiences and are also creating the business opportunities that are required in the industry now. The implementation of the IOT technologies are improving the opportunities all across the world. A few of the examples are:
· Fleet telematics and management solutions
· Logistics and Transport
· Control and Guidance
· Supply chain and inventory systems
· Smart vehicles
· Toll, reservations and ticketing system
· Car sharing and other peer to peer services
· Security and Surveillance
What is the topic that you have chosen for the report?
I have chosen “IoT in Intelligent Transport Systems” as the topic of the report
Problem Statement: IOT is being used in multiple industries, but the implementation of IOT in Transportation can revolutionize the transport industry for both the passengers and the cargo, discuss the current ongoing developements
IOT in fleet telematics
In the country of Italy, an important community asset, the train system was present to link the two cities and had the requirement to be operated economically with the idea of adequately meeting the requirements of the travellers during the crowning time. The main objectives the project was:
· Optimising the taskforce utilization
· Track the trams dynamically based on the real time systems
· Making sure that the trains are sent whenever required and not at random times
The implementation of the services involved installation of the sensors at each step and stereoscopic cameras were installed at doorstep to monitor the status of the doors. The communication to the base station was wireless and hence the systems were mounted on the trams. The implementation was successful with the help of Red Hat Jboss and was the messenger that was deployed to send the messages from the mobile system and the system was based on the tram to the cloud based tram routing system.( Da Xu, L., He, W., & Li, S. (2014))
Success Factors:
The team was able to analyse the system at a dynamic level to change the business logic and implement real time data gathering and analytics without implementing expensive infra updates.( Guerrero-Ibanez, J. A., Zeadally, S., & Contreras-Castillo, J. (2015).)
· Optimise the utilisation of the wireless system
· Implement bandwidth efficient solution procedures
· Edge the upstream data communication
· Using the on-board commercial logic in order to minimise the network traffic (Liu, Y., Weng, X., Wan, J., Yue, X., Song, H., & Vasilakos, A. V. (2017).)
