This is the first part of two sections in your Data Analysis Homework assignment.
In this section, you will follow along with a video walk-through, replicate the analysis, and produce your own output. The YouTube video, SPSS for Beginners - One-Sample t-Test, is a walk-through that presents the process and theoretical rationale for the one-sample t-test. You will follow along recreating this analysis for yourself and produce output from SPSS.
Specifically, you will copy the data presented 45 seconds in (pause the video and copy the data down on a separate piece of paper or directly into your SPSS program) and complete the same analysis that is presented in the video on your own, in SPSS, on your computer. You will submit this output to the assignment folder as evidence of completion. Yes...it is that simple. Just follow along and feel free to pause or rewind the video when needed.
For the second part of this assignment, you will craft a short reults section that describes the results. Your job here is to use your own words! Yes, the video will explain and provide examples of the interpretation; take notes on these ideas. Then build your own explanation of the study and its results. To guide your responses here are some guiding questions that represent the content that should be written together into a paragraph or set of paragraphs for these results section assignments. A rubric is used for scoring and is available to review.
• 1 State your null and alternative hypotheses.
• 2 Is this a one or two-tailed hypotheses? Explain
• 3 Calculate/Include the appropriate statistical test. (if you get stuck, refer back to the video, see the description in your book).
• 4 Can you reject the null hypothesis? Why or why not?
• 5 Include the descriptive statistics, type of statistical test, and results of the tests, with effect sizes and confidence intervals.
The second YouTube video,
What is the One-Sample Test?, presents the theoretical assumptions and purpose underlying the One-Sample T-test. Access the video and respond to the embedded questions. Make sure to take your own notes and use them to expand your understanding of the concepts and prepare for the quiz at the end of the module.
In this video, the professor will walk you through some basic material regarding the process of conducting the one-sample t-test. Follow along and take your own notes. Remember you will be conducting this analysis on your own for homework and providing an interpretation, so it is important to understand how to interpret the results!
Review the following YouTube videos ask yourself:
• Did you understand the process of how to calculate the one-sample t-test in SPSS?
• Are you ready to apply this knowledge to a new data set?
