No, the major difference lies in the essence according to which leaders have people that may follow them while managers have people that may simply work for them. People may follow leaders based on their personal choices or wishes however; individuals have to follow their manager because of structured norms of company or organisation.
Q3:    Outline four qualities or traits of an effective leader.

Q4:     What are ‘norms’?
Norms are binding rules, standards or requirements of the people in process or quality of product. In other words, they can also be considered as rules or policies that are defined and have to be followed by pupils for the successful functioning of organisations.
Q5:    Discuss the manager’s role in promoting healthy norms.
Manager are required to keep a check on the functioning of employees in order to make sure they complies with the structured or proposed functioning. Managers may be required to keep a check on the employees as well as follow an open door policy in order to listen to the issues and provide timely feedbacks to the employee. Further, manager will also be required to make sure that employees do not disregard company’s policies and rules.

Efficiency – is the ability to do things right in less time.
Effectiveness – is the ability to do the right things irrespective of time.
Q7:    Management functions can be categorised as planning, organising, leading, staffing and controlling (monitoring). Define the staffing function, giving some examples to explain your answer.
In order to fulfil company’s requirement of labour and workforce, staffing is the process of hiring new employees. Staffing is appointing new employees as well as retaining them at their positions. Further, the appointment is done specifically based on employee capabilities towards the nature of work. E.g. - giving job to a new employee and later listening to their problems so that they do not resign and retaining them.
Q8:    Define the function of controlling or monitoring and provide some examples to explain your answer.
Controlling or monitoring simply means keeping a check upon the activities of employee. Example – Monitoring the monthly or weekly performance sheets will allow manager to get informed about employee effectiveness.
Q9:    What advice would you offer to someone who wanted to improve their leadership ability?
Leadership is an essential quality and mostly it is considered as an inherited trait. A leader needs to keep learning and therefore cannot stop and the best advice for someone to improve his or her leadership will be to keep learning and be a discrete listener.
Q10:    Define the ‘laissez-faire’ leadership style.
‘Laissez-faire’ leadership style suggests the leaders to keep their hands off and allow members to continue with the decision-making. In much simpler words, leaders empower their employees and allow them to make decisions and provide full autonomy with respect to completion of their tasks.
Q11:    Describe a situation where the laissez-faire style is effective to use.
This leadership style may be effective when group members may be highly skilled, accountable and motivated with respect to their work and possess enough competencies and capabilities to be accountable for the same.
