a) Reason behind Selecting Particular Case Study
Since the year 2005, Blockchain technology is regarded as one of the most prominent technologies, which mainly a record of the digital transaction records. Each transaction that is added with a blockchain is then validated with multiple computers on the internet. I have selected in here the case study of "A Use Case of Blockchain in Healthcare: Allergy Card” by Rhode Ghislaine Nguewo Nhassam and others. I have chosen this particular case study, because in past several years, the use of blockchain in the healthcare system has created enormous innovation. This ensures the tractions between the patients or patient party more secure with the hospital authorities and due to this, the data of the patients in the healthcare system has been more secured as compared to the earlier times.
Apart from this, due to the advent of the blockchain model, now there has been more privacy and reliability in the healthcare data's. Due to the blockchain system or model in the health care scenario, the electronic healthcare records are more secured now. There has been efficiency in the Drug Supply Chain Management, remote patient monitoring, biomedical research and the claim of the insurance as these all are knot in one thread with a single healthcare data with the help of the blockchain approach. These are the major reasons, for which I have selected this particular case study among all the available case studies in the book.
b) Business Problem Aimed to be solved through Blockchain in Chosen Case
The drug hypersensitivity reactions are one of the most prominent problems in the healthcare system and it can affect the 7% global patients that can be life threatening as well. Hence, it is one of the primary healthcare problems. This is also known as drug allergy as there are medicines that are not suitable for all and if patients who have a problem with any particular treatment can fall severely ill (Niranjanamurthy, Nithya & Jagannatha, 2019). Therefore, under the blockchain approach as the details about the patient with the names of the medicines, which are harmful to the patient, are stored, it becomes easier to get information on the patient and save the patient from drug allergy. In this particular case study, the details of the helpfulness of blockchain model for solving the problem of drug allergy has been illustrated in more information. Hence, in the section of the discussion of the particular paper, the benefit of allergy information management with the model of blockchain management has been described in details. The article has tried its best to solve the problem of drug allergy with the application of the blockchain model based allergy management system that can curb the problem of allergy and save any patient from even dying.
