This is a research paper and it should be double spaces and in APA style with 6 to 8 pages long.
LSP 200-216 Bulut Final Research Paper – Winter 2022 This project is in place of a final exam in the course. You have a choice of either working the material from the course into a digital form, creating a piece that highlights the material and topics through audio and video (topics below) or you may choose the more traditional research paper, synthesizing the materials from the course as you focus on a specific topic. Both choices should focus mainly on the material from the course, however you are permitted to include one to two outside additional resources to enhance your analysis. Details for the choices are below: Choice #1 – Research Paper In this paper, you will synthesize and analyze the work done this quarter. The focus is on the materials discussed, assigned, and viewed this term. In other words, all materials on the syllabus are open for analysis and discussion in your paper. You are permitted one to two outside sources, but the focus remains on the course contents. The topics are below as well as details on the format of the paper itself. Please be mindful of both deadlines and proper citations. No late papers will be accepted. The paper is due during finals week (when we will not meet). You will turn in your paper via D2L, and any questions regarding the paper must be addressed prior to the submission deadline. Paper Topic: You will examine the connection between race and ethnicity as it relates to immigrant experiences in the United States. You will have a specific focus by choosing to analyze either: racialization of immigrants via immigration patterns and policies in the United States, or the role of ethnic enclaves on either the racialization of immigrants or the support of the immigrant community, or you may focus on personal stories as a vehicle by which the immigration policies and narratives are refuted by these stories (individual experiences) or further reinforce the narratives and patterns connected to immigrants in the United States. For each choice you will discuss any relevant terms, definitions, and factors that are appropriate, citing the relevant authors, scholars and figures from the course. This is the place for you to create your own analysis based on the materials from the seminar this term. Paper Details: You should create an 6-8 page, double spaced, 12-point font paper with citations in APA style. When in doubt, cite. You are encouraged to visit the Writing Center on campus to assist in the draft stages as well as the compilation of your final paper. Your paper will be submitted prior to or before the deadline (listed on the syllabus) via D2L. No late submissions accepted. Choice #2 - Digital Storytelling Project: You will synthesize the material in the course surrounding one of the three topics (immigration patterns and policies, ethnic enclaves and transnational spaces, personal stories of immigrants in connection to the policies surrounding immigration in the United States). This project allows you to work with the material, but using audio/video as opposed to a traditional research paper. This project involves analyzing course contents and topics, but then presents the analysis and findings in a nontraditional format. Think documentary on immigrants in the United States. Paper Topic: As with the paper option- you’re focusing on a specific topic (immigration policies and patterns, ethnic enclaves, or personal stories) as a way to narrow down your analysis of course contents. You will first choose a focus (topics above), choose the appropriate course readings, and then think about how you’ll create, produce, or assemble your project. Guidelines for the project are below. This will also be submitted via D2L, no late projects accepted. Audio/Video guidelines & details: Your digital story project will be between 10-15 minutes and will include both audio and video. Should you choose to highlight an individual (an immigrant in the United States) please do not use identifying information in your project (no full names, address, etc). If you choose this option, please see me for suggestions and any further guidance. No matter the focus of your topic- you should include course contents woven into your project. This is a way to alternately present the material, but the focus is still on the course material, readings, etc. The finished project will need to be in some form that can be turned in to D2L and shareable or easily viewed. The audio and video content can be either you, clips, other experts, or scholars edited together. Again, envision a documentary or short film as you create and execute the project. **For this project- no matter the option you choose- there are NO LATE SUBMISSIONS. This requirement is listed on the syllabus (due date), and you have ample time to plan, create and submit. You will also receive several reminders about the project in course sessions and via announcements on D2L. All questions regarding the project need to be addressed prior to submission, ideally prior to the day before submission.
