Course Content/Assignments/Reflection Journal.html Reflections KPER 1200 Reflections The purpose of the reflections is to offer you a place to explore your own developing definition of health and wellness. This has the immediate practical benefit of gaining insight from the proposed content as well as providing you with an opportunity to explore a potential career path in kinesiology. Through the reflections you will have a chance to be both "patient" and "counsellor" as you evaluate and reflect on different instruments to evaluate fitness and wellness in your own context. In sum, the reflections will be worth 45% of your entire mark and will be collected three times over the course of the term: EvaluationPercentage Reflections – Set 1 (Units 2 & 3)10% Reflections – Set 2 (Units 4 & 5)15% Reflections – Set 3 (Units 6-8)20% You will complete 3 sets of reflections based on the units. Set 1 and Set 2 should consist of 3 pages where you will reflect on the main points "highlights" of the readings and the activities. Ask yourself: "What have I learned in this unit?" "Why is this important?", “What does this new knowledge mean to me?”, "How will this knowledge help me in future?" "Why are these concepts important?" You may wish to discuss your answers to these questions online with others in your class before writing your reflection. Set 3 is very similar but is required to be a little longer as it covers an additional unit. Set 3 should consist of 5-6 pages. Every reflection set should contain a citations and reference page following the style of the American Psychological Association (APA) style 6th edition. The library quiz will give you some guidance about APA style and some of the basics. For Set 1, you do not need to go beyond the course readings but you will need to include a reference page with at least 2 of the references from Units 2 and 3. For Set 2, you will include at least 2 references from Units 4 and 5 and at least 1 additional reference that is not included in the course. This reference can be an academic article or any other resource (website, newspaper article, etc.) as long as it is cited properly and referenced properly in the reference page. For Set 3, you will include at least 3 references from Units 6-8 and at least 2 additional references that are not included in the course. One of the additional references MUST be an academic article but the other(s) may be from any other resource. Remember this is a reflection rather than a simple summary so ensure that your writing demonstrates how this unit is applicable to your life. Do not be afraid to offer critique where applicable. You should avoid the presentation of quotes from the reading material unless absolutely critical to illustrate a particular point. This should not be a copy of the text, but rather your personal account of the theoretical material as it relates to your own context. You are not limited to reflecting on the course material alone and are encouraged to include material beyond the course readings and activities. Events from your own experience and insights gained from discussion forum conversations are also encouraged. Format for Presentation electronic format all text material must be typed, double line spacing, 12pt font, Times New Roman or Arial page size letter with margins set to normal and left align Rubric for Assessment CriteriaMarginalAcceptableGoodExcellentScore Clear and comprehensive writing and understanding of content1-2 marks Not appropriately written and does not present an adequate and comprehensive sequence 3-5 marks Somewhat well written and ideas do not follow an adequate and comprehensive sequence 6-8 marks Somewhat well written and ideas follow an adequate and comprehensive sequence 9-10 marks  Clearly well written and ideas follow an adequate and comprehensive sequence. /10 marks Personal Reflection1-2 marks Reflection did not address the topic. What I learnt from these Units
Units 4 and 5 had been highlighting the importance of physical activity among Canadians. I perceived that although the Canadians participate in the in a wide range of physical activities, it is difficult to measure whether each of the individuals is getting an adequate amount of exercise that their body needs. The records of the CCHS survey, which was carried out in the year 2008, is an evidence of the lack of adequate amount of exercise in the population of Canada (Statistics Canada, 2019).
Although I observed people are concerned about their health, I presume most of them are not aware of what needs to be done to stay fit and lead a healthier life. I agree with the author that it is necessary for the government and non-profit organization to carry out training programs and interventions where people will become more aware of their needs and how to achieve their fitness goals.
Another aspect that I observed was the systems that were utilized to measure fitness. I understand each measurement differs from one person to the other. There are several limitations to the FITT measurement as a result of the measuring of the physical activity especially whether it is adequate for the person or not is difficult to measure.
