This essay asks you to analyze and compare the representation(s) of young people and their lived experiences in TWO of the primary texts that are on our syllabus. Choose two primary texts (that we have read or screened together), whose representation of childhood and / or youth has interested you. The primary texts we have watched or read include: Babies (Balmès, 2010) KONY 2012 (Russell, 2012) Skim (Tamaki and Tamaki, 2005) Three Wishes: Palestinian and Israeli Children Speak (Ellis, 2004) Teenage (Wolf, 2013) Mohawk Girls (NFB, 2005) Persepolis (Satrapi, 2000) Secret Path (2016) Consider how young people and their lived experiences have been represented differently in these different texts. How are these concepts represented through word and/or image and in terms of the overall narrative? For what purpose? Make some connections between these representations of childhood and / or youth and some of the course concepts that we have been exploring this year. Craft a thesis statement that makes an argument about the comparisons that you are drawing between these two primary texts. Develop body paragraphs in your close analysis essay that prove your argument. Conclude your essay by reminding your reader WHAT you have argued and HOW you have argued it. Include a “Works Cited” page that lists both primary texts correctly, according to the MLA style guide, and any other references that you have used in your essay. Please number your pages and create an effective title that introduces your argument in a creative way. This Close Analysis Essay should be approximately 1000 words (4-5 double-spaced pages). It is worth 15% of your final grade for the course. Make sure that you include concrete examples and quotations from the primary texts in question to 2 back up your claims. [With this in mind, you should re-read and/or watch the primary texts that you have selected more than once, taking notes while reading and watching.] While formal secondary research is NOT required for this assignment, you are more than welcome to include some, if you discover a particularly useful quotation. Point-by-Point Format for a Comparison Essay An argumentative thesis should include three things: 1. your claim or assertion 2. the evidence that supports this claim 3. the order in which you will be presenting your evidence An example of point-by-point format • This type of essay compares and contrasts the two texts under examination, category by category. INTRODUCTION includes thesis and structure of essay POINT 1 Text A ---------- Text B POINT 2 Text A ---------- Text B POINT 3 Text A ---------- Text B CONCLUSION

Introduction
The cultural projections of a particular society are some of the major attracting factors for the directors of documentaries. In fact, it is quiet intriguing for the audience to relate with the facts about how a particular age group perceives or learns in any specific cultural context (Blessing, 352). In the same context, Teenage by Wolf (2013) and Babies by Balmes (2010) are the two selected documentaries for the current discussion.
These two documentaries are close enough to each other in terms of showing how different cultural settings frame the scenario of learning from environment. The transformation of skills is subjected to these settings only especially for the early age learners such as babies or teenage population (Maudlin et al.).
In both Babies and Teenage, Balmes and Wolf both tend to justify that the bare necessitates of life speed up the process of survival related learning skills in young age groups like babies or teens; however, Wolf differs from Balmes in the sense that he widens the scope of comparison by going through different timeframes.
Babies (Balmes, 2013): The Projected Image of Parenthood
At first, it is important to note here that the projected image of the parenthood is the central core of the documentary. There are four different children who have been raised in four different cultural contexts (Blessing, 354). On the surface, it seems to have fun watching documentary, seeing babies doing their natural activities in a light atmosphere. At the same time, there is not sufficient content that can be narrated in terms of cultural settings, in which the babies are brought up.
However, a subtle observation takes audience into the realm of philosophical meaning that the director wishes to provide...
