College Students' Understanding of Academic Dishonesty
-Heidi Johnston
Introduction
Academic dishonesty is outlined as perpetrating or contributing to wrongdoings by those involved in learning, teaching, research, as well as oth
er associated educational work, and it pertains to every person in the academic context, not just pupils. Plagiarism, cheating, falsification or fabrication, and sabotage are all examples of academic dishonesty. Academic dishonesty can be caused by several factors. Researchers have investigated the relationship between cheating and personal attributes, contextual factors, demographics, strategies for deterring misconduct, and even phases of moral development (Krou et al., 2020).

These behaviours include taking notes on an exam, copying on an assignment or test citing sources incorrectly or not citing a source at all, unauthorised collaboration, as well as making false excuses (Lee et al., 2020).

Summary
To determine the ways students understand cheating behaviours, Johnston surveyed 96 students from a midwestern, small, faith-based institution regarding their dishonest behaviours and the cheating behaviours of their peer group, while also demonstrating ethical issues encompassing academic dishonesty. 91 percent of respondents agree that 40 percent or fewer of their classmates cheated (Johnston, 2009). The real number of cheating had been 78 percent. The findings of this journal demonstrated that students can often determine academic dishonesty, however, they often rationalise cheating behaviours. Other findings indicate that several students have limited concepts of academic dishonesty or just deem obvious kinds of cheating to be flawed. The prevalence and definition of academic dishonesty have been discussed first by the author. Finally, a review of recent literature on students' perceptions of academic dishonesty has been provided (Johnston, 2009).
The primary question of the research is whether students are cognizant of their untruthful behaviours. The current research sought to find out how students at the same...
